2020 Summer Edition

Spring Synergy 2020

One of the many highlights of our Spring Synergy celebration of research each year is our poster presentation session, showcasing the research projects of our pre-dental students, D.M.D. and master’s program residents and those research endeavors of our Ph.D. students.

While our 2020 Spring Synergy festivities were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, we still wanted to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of all of the poster presentation registrants.

The UF Office of Research held virtual judging of all abstracts, and we want to offer a special thank you to all of the participants for your commitment to the advancement of research. We truly appreciate all of your submissions, and look forward to celebrating research in person together next year.

A full list of winners for each category can be found here.

Research Honors

Congratulations to all Research Honors & High Research Honors Recipients for 2020! This year, awards were announced at the virtual senior banquet.

Senior dental students who have engaged in various types of research during their 4-year DMD program may be eligible for one of the two research honors awards. The student must have contributed substantially to a research project during their tenure in dental school, as well as provide a copy of a published article or manuscript that is ready for submission to a scientific journal. This year, two students were awarded Research Honors, and three were awarded High Research Honors.

For High Research Honors, the awardees were Kyulim Lee, who worked with mentor Dr. Robert Burne, and Natalie Ateyo, who worked with mentor Dr. Bernadette Papp. Natalie also received the Quintessence Award for Research Achievement. Seung Jin James, who worked with mentor Dr. Zsolt Toth, also received High Research Honors, but will not receive his plaque until 2021 when he is a senior.

For Research Honors, the awardees were Lauren Arguelles, who worked with mentor Dr. Marcelle Nascimento, and Eric Rabinowitz, who worked with mentor Dr. Jose Lemos. Eric also received the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award for Research.

Congratulations again to all of these hardworking students and their faculty mentors!
