Summer Research Program
Jumpstart your dental school journey with the Summer Research Program (SRP). This 10-week immersive experience allows incoming students to conduct original research with a faculty mentor, build community and earn three hours of elective credit—all before orientation begins.

The Summer Research Program is a 10-week program is a blend of hands-on research and structured learning. Through weekly discussion groups, lectures and seminars, you will connect with your cohort and learn from guest speakers on a variety of critical topics:
- Highlights of Current Faculty Research Projects
- Laboratory Safety
- Artificial Intelligence
- Human and Animal Contact
- Responsible Conduct in Research
- Abstract Preparation
- Library Resources
Present your Findings
The program culminates in two key opportunities to showcase your work. You will submit a formal abstract of your project and present your findings to faculty and peers at the end of the ten-week program. Many students also choose to refine their projects for presentation at prestigious national and international meetings, a reflection of both the strength of their work and the support they receive through the SRP.

At the core of the SRP is the close relationship you will build with your faculty mentor. These dedicated experts will guide you through every phase of your project, from experimental design to data analysis and interpretation, giving you the confidence and skills to navigate real research. Their mentorship is key to helping you grow professionally while ensuring a productive, rewarding, and even fun summer.

This section outlines what is expected of all SRP participants. Please read the acknowledgement carefully before signing, as it confirms your understanding of the program’s requirements.

While participants are responsible for their own housing, a stipend is provided to help offset living expenses during the program.

You do not need to choose a mentor to apply to the program. Visit our faculty mentors and their research interests online to view the variety of research taking place in the College of Dentistry.
