Research Profile

Developing and evaluating the piezoelectric scaffold for alveolar bone regeneration. This research was funded by an NIH pilot study grant. Dr. Karanth developed and analyzed a biodegradable scaffold using poly L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and electroactive polymer that could be used for bone regeneration. The 3D printed PLLA scaffold showed promising properties akin to the natural bone, and it is worth investigating further for bone regeneration.
