IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition

Boston, Massachusetts

The University of Florida's College of Dentistry students and fellows exemplified excellence in oral health research dentistry and research during the March General Session and Exhibition in Boston. Among the winners of the prestigious awards were:

Taylor Capasso, a first year DMD student received the Bernard Sarnat award. The award is funded by the Bernard G. Sarnat Endowment and the Craniofacial Biology Group. Taylor's mentor is Dr. Shannon Holliday, Department of Orthodontics.

Andy Alvarez, a first year DMD student is the recipient of three awards.  First, he was selected as the 2015 American Association for Dental Research (AADR) BlocTravel Grant award.

In addition, Andy received the 2015 IADR Colgate Research in Prevention Travel Award for  $2,000, and another Colgate sponsored award for $6,000 to perform his proposed research project titled, A New Arginine-based Bonding Agent with Long-lasting Anti-caries Activity. This award includes a $1,000 to help pay for a table clinic during the American Academy of Operative Dentistry’s scientific session. Andy's mentor is Dr. Marcelle Nascimento, Department of Restorative Dental Sciences.

Xuelian Huang (Grace), was the first (1st) place winner in the Post-Doc Category Oral Presentation at the American Association of Dental Research (AADR)  Hatton Awards Competition.  Grace attributes her success to Drs. Burne, Department of Oral Biology and Nascimento, Department of Restorative who have mentored and supported her with this project.

Taylor Capasso, First Year DMD Student is the

Dentsply Winner! 

Each year, as part of the SCADA Program and Dentsply’s commitment to Student Research, a student is recognized and presented the ADA/Dentsply Student Clinician award. Taylor Capasso will attend the ADA Annual Conference, being held in Washington D.C.in November, 2015.  Along with this award, Taylor was the first place DMD Oral Presentation recipient.  Taylor's mentor is Dr. Shannon Holliday, Department of Orthodontics.
