Atyeo, newest student to DMD/PhD program

Natalie Atyeo, a 2nd year DMD student has been accepted to the Joint-Degree Program for the Fall 2017 term.

Natalie, a native Floridian graduated from Duke University with a BA in Spanish. While at Duke, Natalie conducted research in the business school, analyzing treatment decision making in intermediate stage prostate cancer. She also received a grant to travel to Guatemala to conduct interviews and collect data on the breastfeeding practices and child nutritional intake among the Mayan population.

She was a UFCD Summer Research Program recipient and worked in the Chan Lab, analyzing the TLR-dependence of microRNA expression in chronic periodontitis. Natalie continues to work in the lab on an oral cancer project.

Natalie is involved in the National Student Research Group as a regional representative and as the UF’s SRG Advocacy Director. She is also Director of Advocacy at both the UF and district level chapters for the American Dental Association, as well as a Dean’s Dental Ambassador, Admissions Outreach Ambassador, and past participant in the Dominican Republic Mission Trip.

In her free time, Natalie likes to run, explore Gainesville restaurants, and serve as an alumni interviewer for Duke’s Admissions.
